Coagulase-negative, novobiocin-resistant staphylococci isolated from various animals were allocated to 3 new species. Strains isolated from the skin and nares of poultry and goats belong to S. arlettae. S. equorum comprises strains isolated from the skin of healthy horses, whereas S. kloosii is mainly found on the skin of various wild animals and only rarely on that of farm animals. The chemical composition of the cell walls of these new species is similar to that of S. xylosus and S. saprophyticus.
