Stimulating cereal crops by newly isolated preparations based on bulgarian oil shales

The effect of four preparations (two Bulgarian and two Soviet) produced after kerogen destruction of oil shales on barley cv. Mirage and maize cv. Knezha 611 was studied in a glass house experiment. Treatment was effected in different variants both during the pre-seeding seed processing and by four-fold spraying of the plants with 0.01 and 0.001% water solution of the preparations. The stimulating effect of the preparations tested on the process of tillering, the length of the main spike and other biometrical barley indices was experimentally proven. Of particular importance was the stimulating effect of some preparations on number of grains (two-fold increase). The effect of the preparations on leaf length and width, internode number and grain weight was less pronounced. Positive results were obtained also in trials with maize, particularly concerning plant height and fresh biomass weight, where the stimulating effect was 1.5-2.0 times higher as compared to the control.
