Structure of the bi nuclear iron complex in met azido hem erythrin from themiste dyscritum at 2.2 angstrom resolution

Structure of the bi nuclear iron complex in met azido hem erythrin from themiste dyscritum at 2.2 angstrom resolution

Nature (London) 291(5812): 263-264

Models had been proposed for hemerythrin and myohemerythrin on the basis of crystallographic studies of the proteins. A .mu.-oxo bridged model had been proposed from the results of a crystallographic analysis of metazidomyohemerythrin from T. zostericola. Based on a similar analysis of methydroxohemerythrin from T. dyscritum, previously referred to as metaquohemerythrin, a confacial bi-octahedron model is proposed with no atom identified as a .mu.-oxo bridge. Previously it was stated that at least 1 of the models was incorrect. However, neither completely accounts for the electron density from the present 2.2 .ANG. resolution difference map of the complex and surrounding electron density of metazidohemerythrin from T. dyscritum.
