Potted 'Fukuhara Orange' trees, C. sinensis Osb., were incubated in an artificial cold environment, -6.degree. to -7.degree. C for 6 h. In trees planted in high soil-moisture pots, the fruit thawed more rapidly with less dry-juice sac than on trees planted in a lower moisture soil. Al wrapping just before incubation in the cold environment protected the fruit against temperature lowering and the subsequent occurrence of dry-juice sac markedly. Al wrapping following incubation checked the rapid increase in the flesh-fruit temperature. The subsequent occurrence of dry-juice sacs was somewhat reduced.
