Studies on genetic variability in bunch groundnut arachis hypogaea l

Studies on genetic variability among 83 genotypes of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) having wide geographic origin, were conducted during kharif 1981-82 at the Regional Research Station, Dharwad of University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore [India]. Significant differences for all the twelve characters were observed. The genotypic variability was high for number and length of secondary branches whereas, it was low for oil content and shelling percentage. The number of days to 50 per cent flowering and weight of 100-kernels were highly heritable while oil content and shelling per cent were found to be low heritable characters. The expected genetic gain was high for number of secondary branches, developed pods and low for oil content and shelling percentage.
