Abstract
New hybrid poplars, P. alba .times. P. glandulosa F1 No.3 and 4 clones, P. koreana .times. P. nigra var. italica and P. nigra .times. P. maximowiczii F1 clones were recently released to the farmers for the nationwide planting. A method for optimum site selection was developed for the hybrid poplars. An accurate selection method by quantification of site conditions and analysis of soil nutrition is suggested. Equations were made for estimation of 6-yr-old heights of the hybrid poplars. Comparison between actual height and estimated height was made. As a result, the average difference shown between actual height and estimated height was 45 cm which means 5.2 percent to the mean analysis of soil nutrition is also suggested. Equations were made for estimation of 6-yr-old height of the hybrid poplars. The average difference shown between actual height and estimated height was 1.22 m which means 14.0 percent to the mean of actual height. Therefore, accurate selection method is more desirable than approximate method.
