Studies on the effect of treating watermelon citrullus lanatus and snake cucumber cucumis melo seeds with electric current

Watermelon and snake cucumber seeds were treated with 2 electric current intensities, 100 and 200 mA 2 times of exposure, 1 and 3 min, respectively. The electric current treatment depressed male flower development while promoting female flower formation, in both crops and regions. The weight of watermelon fruit was significantly increased over control by both electric current intensities as well as by the 2 times of exposure. Fruits contained significantly less seeds. The quality of fruits was improved; rind thickness decreased while total soluble solids increased. The yield and fruit quality (weight, length and diameter) of snake cucumber fruits was probably much better than control. The number of abnormal fruits was decreased.
