, : Studies on the inorganic constituents of the inter molt cuticle of the crab sudanonautes africanus. Revue de Zoologie Africaine 93(1): 36-52

Levels of Ash, Ca, Mg, Na and K in the intermolt cuticles of the crab S. africanus are presented. Over the ages 2-5 yr there are no significant changes in ash, Ca and Mg in the intermolt carapace integument. Higher ash levels occur during the 2 rainy quarters, April-June and July-Sept. than in the dry quarters Jan.-March and Oct.-Dec. Lower levels of Ca occur in July-Dec. than in Jan.-March and April-July; Mg content shows no significant variation. There were significantly more ash and Mg in the mineralized carapace than in the phenol-tanned dactylus but the latter contains relatively more Ca in ash than the former. A progressive increase in Ca and a decrease in Mg in the exuviae of juveniles of S. africanus are shown with increase in age.
