Studies on the seasonal cyclicity of the testis and adrenal in the common myna acridotheres tristis tristis

The annual testicular cycle was studied in the common myna, Acridotheres tristis tristis with the seasonal adrenal changes. This bird has monophasic gonadal cycle and the breeding period was noticed in the month of June. Cholesterol content in the testis and adrenal was high during non breeding season. Testicular steroids were high during the months of May to July. The cortical cord width and the nuclear diameter of cortical cells in adrenal increased in the breeding phase. The studies showed the existance of parallelism between the testicular and adrenal physiological functions in common myna. The increased reproductive activity (stress) induced accelerated activity of adrenal medulla.
