This study was conducted to investigate the seasonal occurrence and the timing of carbofuran application for the control of brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens, and white-backed planthopper, Sogatella furcifera, populations in southern rice cultivating area. The brown planthopper was immigrated to rice field in early July, and multiplicated for two generations to reach the peak adult density in the period from mid to late September. However, in case of white backed planthopper, the immigration period and peak adult density period were observed in mid-late June and mid August respectively. Both brown planthopper and white backed planthopper were effectively controlled by single application of Carbofuran 3% granule in mid July. The control effect of carbofuran single application was as effective as triple application of BPMC 3% dust in early August, late August and early September.
