Study of blooming process and stigma receptivity in a male sterile line and its maintainer in pearl millet pennisetum americanum

Study of blooming process and stigma receptivity in a male sterile line and its maintainer in pearl millet pennisetum americanum

Seed Research (New Delhi) 9(2): 148-153

The duration of style emergence, protogyny, anthesis and stigma receptivity was studied in the seed parent line MS5141 A and its maintainer 5141 B of pearlmillet hybrid BJ 104. Style emergence and anthesis took 72 and 48 h, respectively, in most of the earheads. The temporal separation between sexes was 48 h. The stigma receptivity of MS5141A was observed up to 5 days. Delayed pollination of MS5141 A did not affect germination. Partial seed dormancy was observed which could be overcome by treatment with GA.
