Between 18-21 July, 1973, 1121 specimens of phlebotomine sandflies were caught (846 males and 275 females) belonging to 17 different species, the most frequent being Lutzomyia nevesi (Damasceno et Arouck) (653 specimens), L. antunesi (Cautinho) (208) and L. trinidadensis (Newstead) (137). The species collected are listed. A new species, L. omagua is described and the male of L. scaffi is redescribed. The systematic position of the latter species is discussed.
