Study on the activity of wild bees and honey bees in lucerne pollination

Study on the activity of wild bees and honey bees in lucerne pollination

Biologicheskie Nauki 19(3): 51-54

Lucerne pollination by honeybees (Apis mellifera L.) was very insignificant. The main pollinators were the wild bees, Melitta leporina Panr., Melitturga clavicornis Latr. and Rophitoides canus Ev. During the season, every female opens from 28.6 to 56.2 thousand blossoms. Interspecific and intraspecific differences were established in pollination production. Correlation was found between seed yield and the number of pollinated blossoms. Methods to achieve complete pollination under agricultural conditions are outlined.
