Study on the aroma substances of celery apium graveolens var graveolens 1

The essential oils from the fruits, blossoms, leaves, stems and roots of A. graveolens var. graveolens were studied chromatographically (gas chromatography, column chromatography and TLC) and spectroscopically (mass spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy). The following constituents were identified: 14 monoterpene hydrocarbons, 4 sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, 2 monoterpene alcohols, the hydrocarbons n-pentylbenzene, n-pentylcyclohexadiene and 3-methyl-4-ethyl-hexane and the phthalides 3-n-butylidenephthalide (butylidenephthalide), 3-n-butylphthalide, 3-n-butylidene-4,5-dihydrophthalide (ligustilide) and 3-isobutylidene-3a,4-dihydrophthalide (3a,4-dihydroisobutylidenephthalide).
