Sural nerve conduction velocity during di phenyl hydantoin therapy

Sural nerve conduction velocity was followed 1 wk prior and 5 mo. after the beginning of anticonvulsive therapy with diphenylhydantion in a young woman. The behavior of liver enzymes, serum diphenylhydantoin concentration and nerve conduction velocity samples was recorded. Computed statistical correction according to the individual's sex, skin temperature, age and height was applied to single and mean sensory nerve conduction velocity samples. An impairment of sensory nerve conduction which is dependent on the diphenylhydantoin concentration in the peripheral blood is suggested.
