Surface enamel fluoride and strontium in relation to caries prevalence in man

Surface enamel was analyzed for Sr and fluoride on 439 teeth collected from Ohio and Wisconsin, USA. Mean concentrations were 366.4 .mu.g Sr/g and 1169.6 .mu.g F/g. A significant, but weak correlation between fluoride concentration and caries as DMFT [decayed-missing-filled teeth] (r [correlation coefficient] = -0.16) was found, and between Sr and fluoride concentrations (r = 0.48). No correlation of Sr in surface enamel and caries was found.
