Susceptibility of some potato varieties to the potato tuberworm phthorimaea operculella lepidoptera gelechiidae and the green peach aphid myzus persicae homoptera aphididae

Potatoes were more infested by both insects in the spring planting than in the fall planting. No significant differences could be shown between the different cultivars in the fall planting. But in the spring planting 'Arran Banner' and 'Alpha' were the least susceptible varieties to tuberworm infestation and 'Jaerla' was the most susceptible variety. 'Alpha' was tolerant to aphid attack, while 'Arran Banner' was the most susceptible cultivar. 'Alpha' seemed to be the only variety tolerant to both insect pests.
