Synsociological releves of grazing land complexes in the black forest west germany methods interpretation and importance for nature preservation

Synsociological releves of grazing land complexes in the black forest west germany methods interpretation and importance for nature preservation

Phytocoenologia 6: 21-31

Five types of grazing land complexes were distinguished: Molinia caerulea-Nardus stricta-community-Sigmetum in the upper northern Black Forest; Sarothamno-Nardeto-Sigmetum, formation of the lower part of northern Black Forest; Sarothamno-Nardeto-Sigmetum, typical formation (lower part in the midst of the Black Forest); Festuco-Genisteto-Sigmetum, mainly in the southern Black Forest; Leontodonto helvetici-Nardeto-Sigmetum, upper southern Black Forest. The methodical problems concerning the selection of relevee areas and table work were discussed. Besides associations, fragments and forms created by man were also included to show the typical patch pattern of a certain landscape. The significance for nature preservation and its scientific fundamentals is based upon the possibility to describe ecosystems by means of Sigma relevees and to deduce a criterion list for valuation from the Sigma table. It is a future aim to describe all existing preserves by means of Sigma relevees, and to select new preserves, and to determine priorities by applying synsociological means.
