Systematic position of pama pama pisces sciaenidae with a discussion on the taxonomic status of otolithoides brunneus

Journal of the Inland Fisheries Society of India 7: (1976) 36-42
Systematic position of pama pama pisces sciaenidae with a discussion on the taxonomic status of otolithoides brunneus
The systematic position of the commercially important sciaenid, P. pama (Hamilton-Buchanan, 1822) of the river Ganges [India] is discussed in view of the recent (Mohan, 1972) uncertainty regarding its generic position. The taxonomic status of O. brunneus (Day) which constitutes an important fishery in Indian waters, is discussed. A lectotype is designated for this species and a key for its separation from its congener, O. biauritus (Cantor) is given.
