Systematics and ecology of pyrearinus coleoptera elateridae

, : Systematics and ecology of pyrearinus coleoptera elateridae. Arquivos de Zoologia (Sao Paulo) 29(4): 185-236

The genus Pyrearinus was established by Costa, 1975, to contain 24 spp. formerly included in the genus Pyrophorus Bilberg, 1820. Nineteen new species were here described [Pyrearinus adustus, P. baliolus ; P. brunneus, P. castaneus, P. cereus, P. cinnameus, P. coctilis, P. flatus, P. ferrugineus, P. fulvescens, P. fulvus, P. fragilis, P. latus, P. luscinus, P. micatus, P. pusillus, P. ruscus ; P. vesculus, and P. vescus ]. [A new combination was given, P. vitticollis comb. nov. (Pyrophorus vitticollis Germar).]A key to species and bionomic data on P. candens, P. janus and P. micatus were given. Mistakes in the synonymy of P. nyctolampis, P. gibbicollis and P. janus, that appeared in Costa 1975, were pointed out and corrected.
