Taxonomic notes on japanese blattaria part 7 parcoblatta kyotensis new species found in kyoto

Medical Entomology and Zoology 27(2): 115-120

On June 24, 1962, an unfamiliar male cockroach was captured in Kyoto City. This cockroach was an entirely unknown insect from Japan and its generic affinity was finally attributed to a North American genus Parcoblatta, a genus never known from East Asia. The new species, Parcoblatta kyotensis, is described for both the male and a subsequently captured female. Compared with American congeners the male of P. kyotensis is allied to that of P. bolliana (S. et Z.) and P. desertae (R. et H.) in the absence of abdominal tergal specialization, but the female of P. kyotensis has long wings as compared to the brachypterous females of the 2 American species. In her well developed wings the female of P. kyotensis is allied to P. caudelli Hebard but differs in that the male of P. caudelli has markedly specialized abdominal tergites.
