A system for automating the information on herbarium specimen labels using the Minsk 32 computer is described. The system is named HERLIT (Herbearium Lithuanicum) and is used to code such information as plant species names, geographic locations, sites where specimens were collected, name of collector, etc. Some details of this system may be applied in the creation of similar systems in other herbaria. Automation of herbarium data is valuable for floristic and phytogeographic research.
