The causes of changes in the resistance of cereals to foot rot cercosporella herpotrichoides

The causes of changes in the resistance of cereals to foot rot cercosporella herpotrichoides

Sbornik UVTIZ (Ustav Vedeckotechnickych Informaci pro Zemedelstvi) Ochrana Rostlin 17(1): 27-36

The intensively growing tissues are resistant. The winter wheat and barley cultivars which undergo a deep vegetation rest in winter are more susceptible to the fungus in winter, becoming resistant in the stage of intensive tillering. Susceptibility increases during ripening because the tissues grow older. The attempt to ascribe the susceptibility of sheaths and the resistance of leaf blades to the differences in sugar content failed. All site factors that retard the growth of cereals also reduce their resistance to foot rot. This disease is associated with the disposition of plants to sources of infection in plots with a high proportion of cereals and to the weakening of the plants by the phytotoxic decomposing harvest residues.
