The chromatographic separation of uro porphyrin i and uro porphyrin iii octa methyl esters

Analytical Biochemistry 95(2): 444-448

Uroporphyrins I and III were separated by high performance liquid chromatography on a microporasil column using n-heptane:glacial acetic acid:acetone: water (90:60:30:0.05 by volume). Using uro [3H]porphyrin I and uro [14C]porphyrin III less than 2% cross contamination occurred during the chromatographic separation. The same system may be used to separate uro through protoporphyrins (as their esters) by simply increasing the acetone concentration.
