The chronic effect of the herbicide banvel d on daphnia magna

The chronic effect of the herbicide banvel d on daphnia magna

Byulleten' Moskovskogo Obshchestva Ispytatelei Prirody Otdel Biologicheskii 84(3): 70-77

A study of the effect of the herbicide banvel-D in concentrations of 2.8-67 mg/l, was carried out on 5 generations of a laboratory culture of D. magna. The survival of Daphnias at concentrations of 2.8-11.5 mg/l corresponded to that of controls in all 5 generations. At a concentration of 23 mg/l survival decreased beginning with the 2nd generation (to 10-26%), and at 67 mg/l from the 1st generation on (to 53-0%). Fecundity tended to increase at all concentrations in the initial and the first 3 generations but decreased at 67 mg/l in the 4th generation to 44%. In weakened, dying daphnids (concentrations 23-67 mg/l) the body size of newborn young decreased with each brood.
