The correlation between the microscopic agglutination test and the isolation of leptospires in dogs

A correlation between the microscopic agglutination test and the presence of leptospires in the kidneys of stray dogs through direct culture was given. In 16% of the dogs with antibodies to Leptospira canicola, L. canicola was excreted through the urine; in 2.8% of the dogs with positive serology for L. icterohaemorrhagiae, L. copenhageni was detected in the kidneys; and from 5.5% of the reagents for L. pomona the isolation of this serovar was possible. From 35 isolations of leptospires, 5 (14.3%) strains were recovered from dogs with negative serology.
