The corvidae in the sudan with special reference to darfur



African Journal of Ecology 19(3): 285-294



Of the 10 corivid spp. described for the Afrotropical region, 7 [Corvus capensis, C. splendens, C. corax, C. albus, Corvultur crassirostris, Rhinocorax rhipidurus and Ptilostomus afer] are recorded for the Republic of the Sudan and 4 [C. corax, C. albus, R. rhipidurus and P. afer] for the province of Darfur. The literature on the Corvidae in the Sudan is reviewed up to 1955, after which no records appear to be available. The results of field studies in Darfur during 1976 and 1977, with respect to distribution and abundance, group size, seasonal movements, breeding, dimensions and food, are given.
