There are significant fluctuations in the ratios of C and O stable isotopes of calcareous nannofossil assemblages from closely sampled, continuous pelagic sections across the Cretaceous/Tertiary boundary in Spain, Israel and Denmark. These fluctuations are of about the same order of magnitude in the different sections. The isotopic data support the catastrophic nature of the boundary event, but they do not provide decisive evidence for one of the current catastrophic models.
