The di terpenoid alkaloids of consolida ambigua

, : The di terpenoid alkaloids of consolida ambigua. Journal of Natural Products (Lloydia) 43(3): 395-406

A detailed study of the basic components of the seeds of C. ambigua (L) (formerly known as Delphinium ajacis) has led to the isolation of 7 new diterpenoid alkaloids as well as 10 known alkaloids. Of the 7 new alkaloids, 5, i.e., 14-acetylbrowniine, ajacusine, ajadine, ambiguine and dihydroajaconine, are fully characterized; 2 designated as alkaloids F and G are partially characterized. The 10 known diterpenoid alkaloids are 14-acetyldelcosine, ajacine, ajaconine, anthranoyl-lycoctonine, browniine, delcosine, delphatine, delsoline, lycoctonine and methyl-lycaconitine. The methods of their isolation and characterization are discussed in detail. The coexistence of C19- and C20-diterpenoid alkaloids in this plant is worth noting.
