The diet of a tawny owl strix aluco in trentino italy aves strigiformes strigidae

, : The diet of a tawny owl strix aluco in trentino italy aves strigiformes strigidae. Studi Trentini di Scienze Naturali Acta Biologica 59: 221-226

The diet of a tawny owl (S. aluco L.) in an Alpine woodland in Tretino was studied in summer, 1980 and spring, 1981. Rodents are the main prey, both in number and in weight. A seasonal difference was observed in the predation of 3 spp. of voles, Clethrionomys glareolus living in woods and Microtus arvalis and Pitymys subterraneus inhabiting open zones, due probably to hay harvest. Beetles were prey mainly in May and June.
