Cloned cells of a rat uterine adenocarcinoma were treated with dibutyryl cyclic[c]AMP in vitro at concentrations ranging from 10-6 M-10-3 M. Colony forming ability was inhibited at concentration as low as 5 .times. 10-6 M and the inhibitory effect was concentration-dependent. The inhibitory effect of dibutyryl cAMP was enhanced when cells were treated with the combination of low doses (10-6 M-10-5 M) of dibutyryl cAMP and 8 .mu.g/ml of progesterone or testosterone. This enhancement of inhibitory effects was not observed in combined treatment with dibutyryl cAMP and estradiol-17 .beta. at the same concentration as that of progesterone.
