The effect of fertilization of pasture areas on the supply of mineral requirements of pasture animals

The effect of fertilization of pasture areas on the supply of mineral requirements of pasture animals

Wissenschaftliche Zeitschrift Martin-Luther-Universitaet Halle-Wittenberg Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Reihe 35(3): 111-116

The effects of mineral fertilization (P and K; N, P and K) on the production of dry matter and its quality expressed by the content of P, Ca, Mg and Na were studied in the Strazov region, Czechoslovakia, at 3 different altitudes with southern and northern exposure during the period between 1969-1974. The mean yield was 0.98-2.41 tons/ha for the unfertilized variants. The yield increased by 24-145% with P and K fertilization and by 197-450% with N, P and K fertilization. The need for increased P fertilization was emphasized, especially on pastures used for young heifers. The Ca and Mg content of the dry fodder satisfied the standard requirements of the animals. Only 6-33% of the Na requirement is supplied under the given conditions and the addition of Na was strongly recommended.
