The effect of nutrition on the quality of soybean seeds

The optimum N application rates for a good soybean seed yield were 90 kg N in the strawless variant and 120 kg N/ha in the variant of the application of 5 tons wheat straw/ha. Under field conditions, despite intensive bacterization, soybean did not nodulate. Plowed-in straw favorably influenced seed yield. The application rates brought about a statistically significant increase in the concentration of N compounds and proteins and a significant reduction in the concentration of N-free substances. Higher application rates of mineral N did not influence the structure of bound amino acids. The application of 90 and 120 kg of mineral N/ha, providing the highest soybean yield, did not influence the concentration of fat. The slight decrease in the relative proportions of oleic acid was compensated by a marked increase in the relative proportion of linolenic acid and by a drop in the content of the undesired linolenic acid. When straw was plowed in under the crop, these relationships were even more marked. The concentration of phospholipids was not influenced to a significant measure. High N application rates significantly reduced the concentration of P and K in soybean seeds. The concentration of Na, Fe, Mg and S remained unchanged.
