The effect of sewage sludge and refuse compost on the phosphorus condition of sandy soils

Long-term field and pot experiments on sandy red soil showed that the tested waste products wet sludge, dry sludge and refuse compost did not improve the phosphorus condition of the soil, but rather induced a stronger binding and higher sorption of phosphate and a decrease in the P concentration of the soil solution. A eutrophication of the groundwater caused by soluble phosphate is thus improbable.
