The effect of various levels of nitrogen and phosphorus under different spacings on the fodder of napier bajra hybrid

The yield of dry matter from each cutting increased with the application of N up to the highest dose of 75 kg N/ha. P application did not increase the yield of dry matter during the 1st and 2nd yr; in the 3rd yr, it increased yield significantly. The closer spacing of 60cm .times. 30cm was better only for the first 2 cuttings after planting, but in the subsequent cuttings, different spacings gave almost the same yield. The average for 2 yr in respect of crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, N free extract, ash content, Ca, P, total digestible nutrients and starch equivalent were 9, 1.94, 26.4, 48.6, 14.1, 0.42, 0.50, 59.5, 46.4% in the case of control, and 14.1, 2.33, 25.1, 42.7, 15.8, 0.62, 0.33, 58.7, 46.5 with 75 kg N/ha, respectively. The nutritive ratio was 9.1 in the control and 5.2 with 75 kg N/ha. P application slightly improved the percentage of crude protein, crude fat, ash content, Ca and P but did not affect other constituents. Spacing did not affect the percentage of quality characters. The total production of all the constituents under each treatment followed the trend of dry matter production.
