The effect of weather factors on the concentration of virulent genes of puccinia recondita

The dynamics of avirulent genes P1, P2, P24, P3A and P17 are investigated on 3 wheat species [Triticum durum, T. aestivum and T. compactum]. The coefficient of correlation between the frequency of each gene and the temperature and relative air moisture (the index of the duration period of dew) are computed. Correlations of the frequency of genes P2, P24, P3A and P17 with the weather factors mentioned are reliable. The pleiotropic effect of avirulent genes are shown. The genes P2, P24, P3A and P17 affect the speed of germination and the insertion of rust clones carrying these genes. The direction of the temperature effect on avirulence genes of rust and the resistance gene of wheat are compared. The direction of changes of complementary genes of virulence and resistance are selected in host-parasite coevolution as to stabilize the level of host infection.
