The effects of feeding type and sex upon the daily gain and energy and albumin consumption per fattening days in fattening of young cattle from 5 to 11 months

The effects of feeding type and sex upon the daily gain and energy and albumin consumption per fattening days in fattening of young cattle from 5 to 11 months

Poljoprivredna Znanstvena Smotra 32(42): 281-294

Simmenthal bullocks (37) and heifers (68) were divided into 3 groups fed only a feed mixture (concentrate, 6.92% raw cellulose) and 5 groups fed a feed mixture and hay (9.59-11.30% raw cellulose) to determine the effects of sex and feeding type on the gain and feed conversion. Daily gain was significantly higher in bullocks compared to heifers and in feeding the mixture only compared to feeding mixture plus hay. Energy consumption per kg of gain was significantly higher per fattening day, while the feed conversion was lower in bullocks compared to heifers and in feeding the mixture only compared to feeding mixture plus hay. The digestible albumin consumption was generally identical to that of energy consumption since the rations did not essentially differ as to energy and albumin content. Cellulose content was a decisive factor for daily gain per fattening days and the energy and digestible albumins affected feed consumed per kg of gain. Considerably higher daily gain and better feed conversion were noted with the ration with the lowest raw cellulose content. Sex also decisively affected fattening; bullocks, compared to heifers, had considerably higher gains and better feed conversions.
