The electrogenic pump of rabbit corneal endothelium
De-epithelialized rabbit corneas had their stroma dissected off leaving a preparation consisting of Descemet's membrane and endothelium. At 35.degree. C, the preparation developed spontaneously a trans-endothelial potential of about 500 .mu.V, lens-side negative. The endothelial fluid pump acts by pumping an anion into the aqueous humor.
