The section of the Muender Mergel in the quarries near Thuste (Hils-Syncline) demonstrate the significance of Walther's Law for the interpretation of this facies sequence. Oolithic sands and serpulid limestones illustrate a wave-exposed shallow sand-bar; the stromatolite-bearing clays correspond to wave-protected intertidal areas. Micrites and evaporitic clays are presumed to have been formed in a lagoon.
