The field vole microtus agrestis linnaeus 1769 in slovensky kras czechoslovakia

The field vole microtus agrestis linnaeus 1769 in slovensky kras czechoslovakia

Lynx (Prague) 23: 101-103

In 1982 the occurrence of the field vole was documented for the first time in 2 localities in Slovensky kras. Four specimens were caught in traps in Plesivecka planina and an additional eight were found in pellets of the tawny owl (Strix aluco) in Jasov. The find of the field vole in Plesivecka planina is noteworthy in that this animal, which has high requirements for moisture and relatively low temperatures, was found in an area with absolutely no watercourses. It was conjectured that the surviving field vole population in Plesivecka planina use the available conditions that correspond to their biotope requirements, which have arisen in some karst formations, the dolines.
