The filaria breinlia booliati in aedes togoi adipose tissue comparison with the dipetalonema dessetae aedes aegypti association

In the filaria-vector association Breinlia (Breinlia) booliati-Aedes (Finlaya) togoi, the changes observed in the adipose tissue show similarities with those recently observed in Dipetalonema (Molinema) dessetae-Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti: same syncyitium organization of adipocytes, and local stimulation of protein synthesis. There is an essential difference between the 2 associations studied: the adipose syncytium is not stimulated any more by blood uptake in B. booliati-A. togoi, whereas it reacts like unparasitized adipocytes in D. dessetae-A. aegypti. Analysis of crossed couples (B. booliati-A. aegypti and D. dessetae-A. togoi) demonstrates that these physiological properties are not linked to the vector but to the filaria itself.
