The finding of salmonella in the feces and mesenterial lymph nodes of extensively reared pigs

The finding of salmonella in the feces and mesenterial lymph nodes of extensively reared pigs

In the paper we have presented the results of testing 200 samples of faeces and 400 samples of mesenterial lymph nodes of swine for the presence of salmonella. After examining the mentioned material, we succeeded in isolating salmonella in 9.33% of the cases. Altogether 10 serotypes were isolated of which the most frequent were: Salmonella manchester, S. bovis-morbificans and S. derby. Only one serotype was isolated from the faeces, namely S. cholerae suis. Such a high incidence of salmonella in the faeces and mensenterial lymph nodes of pigs which are intended for human nutrition represents a potential danger for human health. Therefore it would be advisable to improve the hygienic control of animal feeds, to carry out bacteriological examinations of the faeces of animals on the farms and to strengthen control of the conditions of hygiene in the abattoirs.
