The functional mechanism of stria vascularis
The intracellular potentials of the cells in the stria vascularis were recorded using cell marking technique. The intracellular potentials of marginal cell, intermediate cell and border cell are +79.8 .+-. 5.2 mV, +32.1 .+-. 9.7 mV and +9.7 .+-. 5.8 mV, respectively. The spacial distributions of DC potential and K+ in the stria vascularis were also surveyed with double barrel K sensitive electrode. One large and 1 relatively small electrochemical gradients were found on the intermediate cell-side and the endolymph-side of cell membranes of marginal cell, respectively; this implies the locations of K pumps in the stria vascularis.
