The genetic analysis of spring wheat resistance to loose smut

Inoculation with chlamydospores after 24 h following pollination of flowers was optimal for infection. The dominant pattern of inheritance of resistance to loose smut was mostly revealed in the F1 hybrids. Hybrid analysis demonstrated that the monogenic pattern of inheritance was observed in the var. Neepawa, CI 12358 and CB-29. The var. Bezenchukskaya 98, Slozhny hybrid and C-17 carry 2 dominant genes each. Resistance of the cv. Patriarca is controlled by complementary interaction of 2 independent dominant genes. One dominant and 1 recessive gene, or 2 genes interacting according to the type of the dominant epistasis, are possibly present in cv. Funello.
