, : The identification of certain widely studied strains of entomophthora pathogenic for aphids. Mycotaxon 5(1): 307-310

Fungi lacking rhizoids but which otherwise fit the description of E. virulenta should be identified as E. virulenta. Because of this, all strains identified as E. thaxteriana must be re-examined to correct any possible misidentifications. Accordingly, the University of Maine strains previously labeled as E. "near thaxteriana" are now identified as E. virulenta.
