The immature stages of alluaudomyia paraspina diptera ceratopogonidae with notes on its biology

, : The immature stages of alluaudomyia paraspina diptera ceratopogonidae with notes on its biology. Annals of the Entomological Society of America 69(4): 687-690

The immature stages of A. paraspina Wirth are described and illustrated from specimens studied in Maryland [USA]. Color of adults is given from living specimens and all stages are compared with other Nearctic species [A. parva Wirth, A. bella (Coquillett) and A. needhami Thomsen]. Larvae are cannibalistic and are preyed upon by larvae of 2 ceratopogonids, Bezzia glabra (Coquillett) and B. pulverea (Coq.), and a chironomid, Ablabesmyia peleensis (Walley). Larval biology is discussed and evidence for a 2nd generation is presented.
