The influence of the spatial structure of forest strips on the distribution of the web spinning sawflies pamphilius vafer pamphilidae hymenoptera and nematus turghaiensis tenthredinidae hymenoptera in the kulunda steppe siberia russian sfsr ussr

Ekologiya (Moscow) (1): 76-78

Changes in the population of winter phases (eonympha and cocoons) of the pests P. vafer and N. turghaiensis were studied as a function of forest strip location (transverse or longitudinal). In the years studied (1973-1978), the development of centers of population of the sawflies was greater in transverse than in longitudinal forest strips. Changes in the population of P. vafer were studied as a function of the exposure (windward, in the middle, protected from the wind) of the forest strip. The highest population density was observed on the side protected from the wind, the least on the side exposed to the wind. Transverse forest strips with a side protected from the wind exhibited the most humid microclimate. The biotopic distribution of dendrobionts in the state forest preserves depends (with regard to habitat) on the location of a given forest strip in relation to wind direction patterns.
