ISSN/ISBN: 0303-4208

Laboratory maintenance and rearing of S. damnosum complex species and the cytotaxonomic determination of reared larvae, was useful to OCP [Onchocereias control Program] related to species identification of reinvading females, distribution of biting populations of S. damnosum complex species, identification of eggs and small larvae found within the OCP area, host preferences of species within the complex, vector potential of S. damnosum complex species for Onchocerca volvulus and O. ochengi and provision of identified material for morphological investigation. The technique of indirect adult identification using reared larvae may eventually be largely superseded by progress in morphological taxonomy.
