The low temperature preservation of boar spermatozoa part 3 the fertilizing capacity of frozen and thawed boar semen

, : The low temperature preservation of boar spermatozoa part 3 the fertilizing capacity of frozen and thawed boar semen. Cryobiology 14(4): 483-491

The maximum fertilizing ability of frozen and thawed boar spermatozoa was obtained in the presence of a lower concentration of glycerol than is required for maximum post-thawing motility. Poor fertilizing ability of semen frozen and thawed in the presence of the higher concentrations of glycerol was associated with damage to the acrosome region of the spermatozoa. The fertilizing ability of frozen and thawed boar spermatozoa depended greatly on the site of insemination.
