The geobotanical mapping of the territory of Barkalovka region, USSR (Central Chernozem State reservation) during the 1st years of reserve establishment made it possible to determine the boundaries of different plant communities, to discover their ecological specificity and to record communities containing relict species, Daphne juliae, Helictotrichon desertorum, Schivereckia podolica.
